  • Here are some photos of the original 9N-5290 Muffler Shield and the 9N-5252 Muffler Clamp that goes with it. As Stated prior to, the muffler clamps are sold at Just8Ns. I hope you can find an original shield, but if you have to have your Mennonite blacksmith make one, that's cool too. Overall length is 23-1/4". I also sketched dimensions on a sheet of paper, and will scan it and email it to you later. The MPC's list all the nuts and bolts needed as well. Hope this help you...

  • STEELCRAFT RUNNING BOARDS
  • I don't know where I found this photo of a 2N warhorse but it was in my saved file folder. Look close and you can see it has the special floorboards that were needed with the optional accessory made by the SteelCraft Cab Company for their All Weather Cab. If one was to go with running boards this may be a good option -at least it would be period correct. Then again, locating a pair of these running boards could be just as difficult as trying to locate a muffler shield.

  • I put floor boards on my 9N so I don't need the heat shield.

  • Chris has just completed restoring his '43 2N warhorse and wants it close to all original -running boards aren't an option.

  • Chris-
I don't have one to sell but can take some pictures of mine in storage at the farm for my 9N project. I'll be back over there this weekend and will get dimensions too. Then maybe your Mennonite guy can make you one. I don't know why Carpenter never repopped these -Just8Ns sells the muffler clamp. Most 9Ns and 2Ns I see are missing the shield.

  • I suspect many got torn off in corn stalks, brush, maybe a tree root or some other object stronger than the tin.

  • Hi Tim,
I too have the Steelcraft system with the posts and roof. Have just never put it on a tractor.

  • I don't know John, I have a complete SteelCraft Cab assembly with these running boards and they are pretty robust -it would take more than a cornstalk or high weeds to tear them off. They mount with HD braces across the bottom of the tractor -see Instruction Sheet above. I'd tend to think the muffler shields were removed when the entire muffler/exhaust pipe needed replacing and never re-installed at the time. It's like the battery covers. Many were just removed to replace the battery and never re-installed. -just what I think, my opinion, so your mileage may vary...

  • My 2N still has the originsl muffler shield, plus a homemade foot rest (like the 8N). The handmade foot rest is some "Diamond tread 1/4" steel plate with a hanger over the front foot rest and a back strap over the brake rod to the brakes.
Either should work for a heat shield.
I can take an I phone picture, but don't want to use the photo bucket, to post it.
