  • Generator bracket and tensioner
  • I need an 8N 10000 generator mounting bracket and tensioner for my tractor . The mounting bracket is the 3 cornered one w/ 2 bolts that mounts mid-case, and the tensioner either bolts on top or attaches to a band around the gen . Anyone have one they can part with ? Let me know how much.

  • HiYa Wayne-
OK, I don't know what a '3-cornered one" is but sounds like you don't have an 8N generator or you do and are asking about a 2N or 9N-C genny belt tensioning device. The 9N-10000-C and the 2N-10000 generators are 1-wire/3-brush type units, A circuit deign and both use the round can cutout. They are virtually the same inside and out except the belt tensioner on the 2N was a standard item bolted on and the 9N-C generator had a dealer available kit that used the steel band around the barrel to fasten with. The 8N-10000 A and B, 3-wire/3-brush A circuit type, with a voltage regulator, used on front mount tractors, used a belt tensioning arm, p/n 8N-10145 see MPC, and fastened to the timing cover and genny mount bracket. SEE pictures below. If you have an8N genny and need the belt tensioning arm, I have about a dozen. $15 includes shipping. Email is open.

  • Tim,
Looking at your photo of the 2N-10181 adjustment assembly I'm looking to the conical shaped nut that is on the end of the threaded rod closest to the cylinder head. It rests in the bracket with two raised ears to stop it from rotating. Bracket has two slots that lock the nut from turning. Would have the NUT? Price if you find one.

  • HiYa Al-
I believe you are referring to part number 2N-10180 in the drawing. I have a few but they are on assemblies so can't part separately.

  • Re: Generator bracket and tensioner
  • Would you consider selling one assembly with nut?

  • Re: Generator bracket and tensioner
  • The ones I have are all on generators and I would have to sell them as complete units. Which do you need - the 9N kit with wrap-around steel band or the 2N bolt-on style? I will do some checking around and see if I can find one.

  • Re: Generator bracket and tensioner
  • I would take either one. Actually I think the 2N is the wrap around one, listed as 2N-10181. The important part is the NUT. My email is open. Al

  • Re: Generator bracket and tensioner
  • The 2N-10181-B is the kit part number, released in 1945, thus the '2N' part prefix code. 2N Model production did not begin until October, 1942, but those were the wartime models -no generator. Standard 2N production with rubber and electrics began in early 1943. The 2N-10000 generator came with the tensioner mounted on the barrel. Normal 2N production began ramping back up slowly, remember, there were wartime restrictions on all US manufacturing then so part suppliers to Ford had to also ramp back up slowly as well. Somewhere along the way after 1943 it became evident that the 9N-10000-C generators still in use would benefit with the new tensioner so they designed and released the kit as an optional dealer accessory. On a new 2N tractor, the belt tensioner was standard equipment on the new generator.

  • I need the mounting bracket shown in the last picture labeled " Ford 8N generator w/tensioning arm, used only with front mount. I need the bracket that bolts to the case and the flat piece the adjusts the tension also , if you have it I'll take it . What's the best way to send payment ?

  • OK I see now what you meant by '3-corner' piece. That is p/n 8N-10151, and the arm is 8N-10145. I have the latter part as mentioned above, and can look for the mounting bracket then get back to you. My email is open.

  • Re: Generator bracket and tensioner
  • Tim, just checking back with you. Wondered if you have had any luck finding the mounting bracket and tensioner for a 8N-10000 gen yet.
