Re: 1948 Ford 8N tractor for sale w/ mower deck & scraper blade
maybe a '49 model -check serial number. The serial number will identify the engine block cast date. Also, check the engine casting code date tag on the starter pocket. That is the exact date when the block was cast. The alphanumeric nomenclature code is defined as: 1st symbol is a letter, from 'A' to 'L', with 'A' being for the month of January and 'L' being for the month of December. Next will be a number from 1 to 31 to designate the day of month; lastly, a single numeral to define the year, i.e. a '7' designates 1947, an '8' designates 1948, etc. I see a screw-on shifter knob which didn't come out until 1950 at s/n 8N-252845. I see a UNITED air cleaner that was used almost exclusively on 1949 units. I see the early steering box, used up until early 1949. Not really that it matters, the important facts are it is an 8N so will have POSITION CONTROL; obvious front mount distributor, early steering box, and a 4-speed transmission. It has one original Hat Rim and one 6-Loop aftermarket style. The hat rim shows that Ca Chl is or has been leaking. I can't tell of any more details based on the pictures posted.
