  • Original drawbar
  • Looking for
The original Dearborn swinging draw bar that mounts to a bracket under the rear end of the tractor with a pivot pin and ties into a drawbar mounted to the three point hitch arms.

  • The Dearborn Swinging Drawbar was released with the 8N model. Every 8N and NAA came with the 8N-802 Clevis Bracket and Pin mounted underneath diffy case, BUT the drawbar itself was an optional dealer accessory. In 1954 Ford revamped the clevis and drawbar to a much better design. The old style required the 9N-5182 11-Hole Drawbar to use and both drawbars had to be removed when using many implements like a plow, disc or cultivator. With the redesigned unit, the swinging drawbar could be left mounted in the clevis and not interfere when switching from a pull type to a lift type implement. The newly designed unit was introduced with the 600-800 Models but could easily adapt to the 8N and NAA as well. NOTE: The 9N and 2N models had no provision for the clevis but many farmers made their own and later and some fellas today make and sell one as well. The redesigned FORD clevis and swinging drawbar is the style made and sold today at every part supplier outlet. Kits include the drawbar, the clevis, the pin, and check chain. Both styles of clevis brackets will mount to the diffy case but their respective parts do not interchange. The VEE-BAR was a HD drawbar. JUST8NS makes and sells the 8N-804 Pin for the 8N-802 Clevis.

  • I had many hours switching hitch configurations on our '51 8N with the original style. A problem often was that the pin for the swinging drawbar would get loose and get lost. Dad purchased a secondary mechanism that was supposed to lock the pin. Backing up in stubble or in mud getting unstuck would sometimes bend the locking mechanism making it non-functioanal.

  • FORD was meticulous about having pins and such with check chains. The clevis pin had a check chain as well but often farmers would take them off or on occasion they'd get caught on a stump or bush and get yanked off.

  • None of the swinging drawbar pins under the diffy that we had ever had any kind of chain.

  • This helps a great deal! I had not considered the 1954 style as it looks rather bulky around the pto, but it appears as though itís the most versatile and you arenít forced to continually add and remove lpieces to lift or pull things

  • I never heard of Brillman, don't know of them, but I use Dennis Carpenter or Agri-Services for exact-as-original wiring harnesses. I stated the facts and am not attempting to tell anyone what to buy or what to do. The OEM Dearborn Swinging Drawbar works fine and looks great on a tractor for show. If you looking for a swinging drawbar to pull an implement with, the later revamped swinging drawbar is more practical for reasons already given, in my opinion. Whatever style you choose, make certain you read the manuals and know how to pull correctly with your Ford tractor. Stump and log pulling is a big use for many. Many an accident has occurred, sometimes fatal, because the operator doesn't know and pulls incorrectly.

  • Dean,

Would the one you have work for an 850?

  • Re: Original drawbar
  • No, but swinging drawbars for your 850 are not hard to find. Indeed, aftermarket ones are still available.

  • Where are you located? The bracket and drawbar are a bit heavy but not impossible to ship.

  • Ouch. Sorry, I could not put in my luggage Monday. I was in New Braunfels Monday nite to Thursday morning. Older sister fell and broke her left hip and dislocated fingers of her left hand Sunday morning. Surgery for hip replacement Tuesday. She went to rehab-therapy yesterday.
