  • WTB: 45 lb sections of Ford Rear Wheel Pie weights
  • I'm looking for two pieces of the 45lb Vari Weight (pie weights) that fit the rear wheels of a Ford 850. I'm in Ohio, so hopefully you're somewhat close or willing to mail via USPS Large Flat Rate Boxes. Let me know what you have, thanks!

  • Thanks for the pics Kirk! I'm just needing two with the valve stem cutout so if you have any spares, let me know. Thanks again!

  • If you don't find any with cutouts for valve stems, go to your local tire store and ask for Dill Valves. They are 90 degree screw on valve stems that will let you use a full pie wight. Not cheap, about $60 for two (based on my 2014 sales ticket)

  • There is very, very little space between segments of the pictured design and the rim.

  • I have a complete set of the HD (45#) Weights but will not separate. I think my buddy has some extra individual weights - I will check with him. I have never seen any weights or parts with markings so don't know -most Ford castings were done at the Rouge and Highland Park foundries. USPS will only mail up to 17 pounds. You need UPS or FEDEX.

  • Ford did not cast pie weights but rather farmed such work out to independent foundries.

I recently shipped a 6V generator in a USPS Priority Mail box without issue, and have shipped 45 Lb. pie weight sections the same way in years past.

  • A few years back I found on Ebay four of the industrial style 45 lb pie weight segments that I needed to complete my set. The seller shipped each segment individually in the USPS "if it fits, it ships" box offered. Was a great way to ship, probably not so great for the mailman. Im not sure this service is still offered today.

  • Do your weights have any markings on them? Several variations exist based on what foundry Ford used.

  • I have several odd segments but, as previously mentioned, there are various styles. Will need to know what style you have.

  • Thanks for your responses to my ad looking for two of the 45lb pie weights! The first two pics are what I have. The ones I need would have a notch cut out to mount around the valve stem, like in the second pic.

  • To open your options as it is more likely you will find weight segments that do not have the valve stem notch, you could switch your rims so that the valve stem is on the inside of your tire. Or it may be possible to mount the mounting disk so that the valve stem is in the crack between two weight segments and not right in the middle of a weight. Some weights can have more space between weights than others when mounted.

  • Sorry, but I have no spare valve stem segments.

FWIW: There is more than one style of valve stem segment as well.

  • Kirk,

If you get a chance, could you post a pic of the backside of both of those weights with the valve stem cutouts? Thanks!

  • Re: WTB: 45 lb sections of Ford Rear Wheel Pie weights
  • Thanks guys! I don't remember seeing any markings on the other weights, but I'll check. I think the USPS flat rate boxes are good up to 70 lbs and are typically cheaper than UPS or FedEx.

  • There were no marking on the weights that I could see. Didn't take them all off, just checked a couple of them.

  • I have a set that has W3 cast in the top of each section. Then I have a set that is totally blank. the different sections do not interchange on the mounting brackets. I was told by an old Ford block man that Ford did NOT cast weights due to the huge cost of freight to get them to the dealers. Instead, Ford corporate contracted with several foundry's in different regions of the US to cast the weights for Ford.

This gentlemen shared with me that variations occurred in terms of weights of the sections, the mounting plates could be different, and based on the quality control of the foundry, how the sections mounted on the mounting plates.

Have not reason to doubt the gentleman, he has now passed on. However, based on my experience with my 2 sets,... who know.
