  • Woods mower gearbox
  • Hello all,
I have an old Woods XT184 single spindle brush hog that the lower vertical shaft bearing housing busted up on. The blades were new last year, as were the clutch disks and springs. The PTO shaft is also in good shape. I hate to scrap it, so I need a gearbox assembly. I'm hoping one of you might either have one, or be able to direct me to a "mower boneyard". Seems like there must be a lot of old retired mowers out there.

    Thanks,
    Larry Frechette

  • A new gear housing (ref # 15) is shown at the link below for $308.

I don't know if you're willing to spend that much, but it is new.

  • Bruce,
Thanks. I will have to take my old one apart to see if it trashed any of the guts. The momentum those things have let it thrash around pretty good before you can get it stopped. I hadn't considered doing it this way. I had been hoping to find a decent used complete assembly. I appreciate the idea and the link.

  • I opened up the gearbox and there is no saving anything in it. Most of the gear teeth and bearing rollers came out as a handful of little steel chunks. So I'm back to asking and hoping for someone who has, or knows of, adecent used gearbox assembly.

    Thanks Again,
    Larry
