  • Aluminum fenders/hood from our 9N tractors?
  • Grandpa gave me 3-9N tractors before he got sick hoping to keep them in the family. He also stated back then to grab the hood, sides, and rear fenders for # 1314 that the car dealer replaced with heavy metal in the spring of 1940 since they made so many rattles out in the field. I did. At the auction after his passing I got another complete set for the second one he bought in early December of 1940 that was still on the car lot. Crazy place for a tractor, but he said car dealers sold them back then. They are all very light weight. One has more coats of paint on them than Carters have liver pills. One set is now clean to bare metal and only had a white type powder on it. Does anyone know what color to re-paint the cleaned up set? This tractor is used every week and runs like new. thanks Mike

  • Murph-
Early 9N tractors up to about s/n 700/800 had aluminum hoods, doglegs, and a horizontal bar front grill -ALL very collectable nowadays for us early 9N restorers. Fenders were never made of aluminum though, but did have double ribs. The tractor was all painted Ford 9N dark Grey but like Rock said, restorers nowadays polish them shiny aluminum. Got the early small generator and voltage regulator too? Four spoke steering wheel? Stash them away and replace with steel as suggested if you are going to use the tractor other than show. BTW you poste don the IMPLEMENTS forum -no big mistake just might get seen more on the regular N-BOARD forum.

  • You do know that a set of aluminum hood and doglegs is probably worth thousands, I would guess 5k. Do yourself a favor and put the aluminum hood and doglegs in a very secure location, sort of like adding to your 401k, and put on steel for use in the field. God forbid you break one. You see aluminum all polished up at shows, painting one would be like painting the tractor jd green.
