  • New Manifold-exhaust pipe gasket.
  • On my 800 I had a bad exhaust leak between the manifold and exhaust pipe. It was creating an erratic idle. Ordered a new gasket from the local New Holland dealer and gave it a go. During the restoration I had used brass exhaust nuts fortunately. The outside nut and bolt came out easily. Then the problem began. How to get a wrench on the bottom inside nut. I tried contorsion, cast a few spells, nothing worked. Finally, I took the cheapest 9/16 box end I have and cut it about three inches long, then clamped it the vice and gave it a slight bend. Worked like a charm. Slipped easily on the nut. Maybe this will help someone.

  • No such thing as too many tools. Look on-line for "obstruction wrenches". They come in several varieties; U shaped or S shaped box end, or open end with the opening at 90, or 45 degrees to the handle. Don't stop there, also look at a few crow foot wrench sets. Special tools might sit in the box for a year or two, but when I need one, they are well worth the storage space.

  • Right on, Kevin! Another useful tool would be wobble adapters. Don't know if they would help on this task, but they have been the difference in getting a socket on a nut/bolt in tight areas for me on many occasions.

  • I was waiting (and hoping) this topic would get sidetracked into another "my favorite tool" chain. I sometimes make my Christmas list from those, grin.
