  • Carb trouble
  • I bought a 1941 9n that had been sitting for years, Has spark but wouldn't run, removed the carb and disassembled it to find the bowl filled with rust and the floats set up, freed up the float, removed all the crud, cleaned every hole ,port, passageway with carb claener and compressed air, reinstalled it and NO fuel to the engine-Will not run!!??, Pulled the drain plug on the bottom of carb all kinds of flow so Id say the bowl is filling with gas.
I can make it run "Barely" by holding my had over the intake of the carb, Just holding the choke on does nothing.

I'm confused, as you know there ain't much to these carbs, it should do "Something"???

Any and all help is appreciated

    That's Lenny

  • put some atf in the cylinders and let it soak in for a few week, add more from time to time. It may free up stuck rings. Like John said, do a compression check.

  • Carb may still need work. But, you need to do more diagnosis. What are the compression readings? What does spark look like? More DATA needed.

  • Has good spark and compression, it will also run while spraying carb cleaner in carb throat, it seems to be sometime to do with the carb it's self ,maybe a plugged passage?

  • Cleaning the carb is just one part of any fuel system fix. Making sure the fuel tank and lines and filters are free of rust and dirt is equally important. Good luck. Dave
