  • Carb question
  • I bought a used carb off CL that the guy said came off his 8n. It's a MS TSX 241 but when I got it home I noticed the choke linkage attachment point is on the opposite side as the throttle linkage. Is it possible to remove the linkage and flip it to the other side?

  • I rebuilt one carb with a backward choke shaft. I bought it without carefully studying the photos. No big deal to put the standard N-tractor choke shaft in it. Just drill the hole the rest of the way thru the body and then counter-bore correct size for the seal. I made a brass plug to close-up the hole thru the "wrong" side. Installing another seal on that side might have worked just as well.

  • If it is really a 241 you should be able to move it to the correct side. Since it would have been on the throttle shaft side to start with. Someone could have mated a 241 top with the wrong bottom. Although the bottom half is normally labeled in the spot your choke shaft is now located. So?? Hmm.

  • HiYa Tom-
First let's be certain we are all on the same page. The TSX 33; TSX-241-A; and TSX-241-B carbs used on the N's should all have the throttle shaft lever linkage and the choke shaft lever linkage on the same side of the carb -the side that faces inward toward the engine. How one got reversed is beyond me. The choke lever is a blind hole as the side facing out has the cast paddle boss where they fasten the brass model and ID tag to on the 241's. Can you post pictures?
