  • I'm currently working on restoring an early 9n, #5150. First let me thank the NTC for all the online help I've used so far, great source of information. My Question is for this vintage of 9n what is the correct brake & clutch pedals. Some previous owner welded plates on the foot pedals, probably not a bad idea if all you are going to do is use the tractor, however I'd like this one to be original.I have a set of "straight" pedals for it and a set with what I believe would be the right brake pedal with a curve in it. Which is correct ? Thanks to all.

  • I'm thinking it was 1941 when Ford changed so you should have the straight ones. as John Smith states on his site -see LINK below. Brake pedals were interchangeable up til then. No 9N nor 2N model ever came with running boards. Many aftermarket ones were added and some farmers made their own. I know as a youngster I hated when it my older brother could hop up onto our grandpas early 9N and I struggled.

  • For your tractor I believe the straight brake pedal would be correct. I don't think they went to the one with the curve until late '39' or early '40'.

  • Larry,,look at the top red area for "links" and click. Then look for John Smith's link.Once there find the page that shows/exsplains many of these N's.You might see a pic of the 9N foot pegs.A lot of wonderful reading and pictures at this link.

  • The early 9Ns had a straight left brake pedal. They were later changed to a raised curve curved as people were experiencing their foot sliping off and getting between the tire and brake pedal. Maybe John Smith would give the serial # of change. My previous post of or 1939 9N shows a straight pedal.
