  • need some info on bearings
  • I have some Norma 203PP bearings, (2) that I am wanting to find good quality replacements for. they are apparently the same as these:

Timken 203PP Ball Bearing, Double Sealed, No Snap Ring, Metric, 17 mm ID, 40 mm OD, 12 mm Width, Max RPM, 1060 lbs Static Load Capacity, 2450 lbs Dynamic Load Capacity.

I found the Timken info on Amazon but they are almost $20 per bearing. Anyone have a line on a source for similar bearings where I can get them at a little less?

  • They are the same as a 6203 2RS - common as dirt and unless you insist on Timken just about the same price:

    SKF 6203 2RS

    Timken 203PP

    TOH

  • That $20 bearing probably is USA made and those cheaper ones are the Chinese junk. You get what you pay for.

  • I thought I had found a couple but not what I wanted so I'm still looking for these bearings. I haven't done anything more on them yet because I am still getting over the flu and don't feel like much yet. I know what you are saying on quality and because of the application, I do want good quality. Thanks you.

  • For $8 on O'Reilly you can buy a National/BCA bearing. That should be a good one. There are also differences in quality in China made parts, some very bad some very good.

  • The 203 is common and easy to find. Any auto part store can get them as they fit many alternators and are used as clutch pilot bearings. PP stand for a seal on each side, but stores like O'Reilly and Autozone use a FF suffix. 6203 is another interchangeable number. Just type in 203PP into any auto parts site and you will find they are only $4 or $5 and in stock.

  • A very useful document for bearings is the SKF Master Interchange. It is readily available free in PDF format.

  • Websearch 6203 ZZ or 6203 2Z and for quality bearings stick to SKF or Fafnir. They will likely be in the $5 - $20 range depending on the vendor.

  • Thank you. One of the parts houses locally priced some skf. Must be good bearings. Price wasn't too bad. Thanks again.

  • You're welcome. SKF is top of the heap. Fafnir and NSK are right up there.

  • I think I might have found a couple at about 11.50 or so each. They should fit the bill for what I need. Thanks 36 coupe for your response though.

  • Re: need some info on bearings
  • Oh my gosh, I am taken back by your willingness to help me. Thank you, thank you sincerely.

Now for a confession. My shop has been taken over by the project that I needed the bearings for. I have other things that I needed to get done and I wanted that project out of my way. So... You guessed it, as soon as I felt better and was able, I made it into town and bought the bearings. I will live with my decision even though I paid more that I should have for the bearings. I admit that I was in a bit of a hurry. You are a good man and I can't thank you enough for your responses to this thread and your willingness to be of help. The bearings are in and I am in the process of final assembly on my little project so please, don't worry about checking for the bearings. I apologize for not waiting longer.

Thank you again 36 Coupe. Your willingness to help me certainly made my day. God Bless.
