  • Oil levels
  • Just changed the oils in my 641. The hydraulic system dipstick level reads ok but looking down the transmission and hydraulic fill holes there appears to be lots of gears and shafts exposed or not submerged in oil. Do I believe the dipstick or am I overthinking? I put in the correct amts. of fluid, Thanks, Gary

  • The hyd dipstick checks the hydraulic oil level only, in the hyd system on a 641. A check plug on the right side of the transmission, towards the rear. just under the step, that checks the transmission oil level. There is also a check plug for the differential at the rear of the tractor on the left axle housing.

  • Go by dipstick reading....when tractor is running, gears get oil slung onto them, not supposed to be submerged. If you overfill you'll soon find out why they invented kitty litter... ; > )

  • Not submerged.....count on oil slinging by gears.

  • OK, let' stalk about your Ferguson 2-bottom disc plow. Is it a true disc plow - see LINK -or a standard two-bottom turning plow?

  • Tim Daley: A Dearborn 10-80. Don't know where I came up with the Ferguson. It looks almost too big for the 641. Haven't hooked it up yet, spent the day working on a Bantom 1/4 ton trailer. Gary

  • Gary-
The Dearborn 10-80 Disc Plow was released as part of the Ford 8N line of implements so your 641 will certainly be able to pull it. Do you have the scrapers on it? Most of these are missing the scrapers as they got clogged up with rocks and roots easily so the farmer just pitched them. Most are probably setting on a barn shelf as no one knows what they are -no part numbers or Ford logo on them. I had a later Dearborn 10-247 Disc Plow with one scraper. I pulled it with my 8N and liked it. Then I sold the plow but kept the scraper, and several years later sold the scraper to Zack Smith. The two plows have different scrapers and do not swap out. We have the manuals here in our library -click on LINK below.
