  • I just bought a new dipstick for my hydraulic oil. I found 2 broken ones in the hydraulic sump when I removed it for cleaning! The current one was also broken off at the sealing cup. Anyway, the new one fits kinda' loose. Is this normal?

  • I have also purchased a new one at one time another. Cheep as it looks. Found an original at a swap meet too. And just by chance, I reworked a dipstick from an older car.
Outside of the port, looks just like the original, but inside, you can tell it has been shortened.

  • Take the dipstick out and plug the hole. Pull the bolt in the round cover in the 6 o'clock position to check the oil.

  • I bought a new one for my 8N several years ago. The cup part feels loose on it to. You can't push it in to hard or it moves and that defeats the whole purpose of the dipstick. I think like a lot of new things it's junk.

  • I figured there might be a Chinese connection in the mix. Think I'll re-engineer mine now.

  • Have you noticed how easily your boot heel will catch and pull the dipstick out. Clear out so you have to go looking for it. I would imagine that that is also what breaks the blade of the dipstick. I discovered my no 12s were responsible for hooking and pulling out the dipstick on my 8n. I fabricated a bracket that surrounds the dipstick and used the bolts that keep the round cover on to hold the bracket on. Now I don't have to worry that my heel will catch it and pull it out or break it off.
