  • The same guy I'm buying the 8n from has a 54 NAA with a Sherman, looking at the pic Why would you think someone would have cut this hole in the tranny case?
Thought years ago someone saw this same thing and posted about it.

  • A chunk of linoleum, some roof tar and a big toggle bolt ; you won't even know it's there.

  • Maybe an access hole for filling the transmission with oil. I'm a machinist and locating holes isn't as easy as it seems. It would be hard to miss that far.

  • Looks like he figured the height right, but forgot the other dimension, or what he measured from. How many tubes of JB Weld does it take to fill an oopsie that big?

  • The original FORD SHERMAN Step-Up, Step-Down, and Reversing Transmissions A & O manual shows there was a template included with a new unit that you positioned on the case side to center punch/mark holes and drill 1/4" holes in the case in alignment with the 1-1/4 Hole/Plug there originally. I don't think this fella used a template at all...

  • This isn't the original template but probably made from one....

You use the radius rod points as reference...

  • I guess he never heard the phase measure twice cut once.
