  • 6 volt battery
  • My 6 volt tractor battery is lasting about 2 years. The tractor only gets used a few times to bush hog. Is that bout how long it should last.

  • That is the problem with the bargain house batteries -two years is about the average lifespan. Some will argue, they always do, but I found that spending an extra $20 or so on a good brand like Interstate or DEKA is well worth the money. I get at least 5 years life out them, the 6 volts anyway. As mentioned too, invest in a BATTERY TENDER to keep it at full charge when not around. That alone will help prolong the life as continuous drainage and recharging takes its toll. If tractor isn't going to run in 30 days or more, disconnect the ground cable and keep it on the tender unit. You should run tractor every 30 days or less to keep the fluids lubing and condensation limited. Got to get it good and hot, best to work it some too.

  • i keep a DelTran battery tender on my 8N. Can't recall how old the batt is but it cranks like new.

IMHO trickle chargers are old school, out of date, and not the plug it in and forget it technology.

  • My 6v was bought in 2010 is still gets the job done. I brush hog three times a year and remove the battery for the winter with periodic charges till I reinstall it in the spring. The previous battery lasted 8 years for me.

  • I have Battery Tenders and recently bought a couple of Battery Minders for my tractors and farm truck that doesn't get used much. The Batter Minder use High Frequency pulses to desulfate the plates on your battery. Going to see if this prolongs the life any.

  • Re: 6 volt battery
  • I only get a couple years out of batteries if I don't keep a trickle charger on them.
Everything that I don,t use real often has a trickle charger on it and batteries last 5 years or more. Just my experience.

  • My 640 is on a battery that is 6 years old.You should chargw the battery when the tractor is idle.A solar panel would be ideal.

  • Re: 6 volt battery
  • Do you keep a Battery Tender connected to it when not in use?

  • Re: 6 volt battery
  • I have used battery tenders. Then did not on the 6 volt tractor. Seems like the price of batteries is going to force me to be more diligent.
