  • Wife likes the new 8n
  • She wanted to mow some grass so I switched the mower over , She likes it so I guess I'm safe for buying it !

I tried mowing with the Sherman and just couldn't find and combination that works, It seems the PTO speed is critical - High is too fast, Low is to slow.

  • With my finish '6 mower on my 8n I mower in 2nd gear standard range. She looks to be doing a good job. where did you when you took the photo? from your easy chair on the porch with adult beverage in hand. every once in a while you have to yell, hey you missed a spot. Wish my wife would mow the lawn but than that would probably mean tin repair work for me.

  • Very dangerous implement with a bad history.I would not let my wife run a rotary mower. We lost a fellow here went the seat broke on a Farm All.He went under the mower. I see kids being given rides on rotary mowers and tillers often here.

  • Dave,if you can get shifter to pull out you should be able to find straight thru mode pto speed should be good then.

  • Go to the chart in the post below that Tim Daley published. Look at the columns for engine rpm of 1000 and 1500. Follow down the pto column to the number 540 rpm (or closest to 540) Go back to the left and find the gear selection.
For my 6' Woods finish mower I typically run engine 1500 rpm in third gear unless grass is taller, then I shift to second gear. (I basically use the same on my Jubilee)
Step up second at 1000 rpm would give you proper PTO speed and might work for very light mowing. You have to decide how that works for you.
I like 1500 RPM engine speed for all of my mowing.
