NAA FORD ROCKING AMP METER
I own an old NAA since the last 20 years
I am trying to find out why the ampmeter needle is rocking and I think the generator is not working since I had to replace the batery a few times.
I check the brushes in the generator and they look ok to me . I also ordered and received a restoring kit from 8N but its no good the brushes in the kit are too large and the bracket are not the same model
Can somnole guide me ? as to why the ampmeter needle is rocking all the time at low or high RPM?

Re: NAA FORD ROCKING AMP METER
I am assuming you mean the ammeter needle is bouncing back and forth. It could be a few issues: Loose belt, bad wiring/short, bad voltage regulator, weak battery, or more. You may be better off taking the whole generator, the voltage regulator, and the ammeter, to your trusty local starter/alternator shop -the one who knows all about these old 6-volt devices as they can bench test all, tweak if needed or rebuild if needed. You do know these old machines were originally wired as 6-volt/positive ground systems right? Have you verified what you have is all correct according to JMOR's Wiring Pictograms?
