  • thermostat install direction
  • I have a 48 8n, Which way does the thermostat go? I know It goes in the upper rad hose, but does the bi metal coil go down aimed to the head, or the other way around. Thanks in advance for the help.

  • The coils go closest to the head. Also best to put a plastic tie around the hose where the stat is installed.

  • Yes, cause it will move.

  • Pointed end goes towards the radiator. Here is a good video.

  • Thank you for the information, I think my thermostat is really old, possibly original, as there is no point on it. it has 2 clam shells inside on one end of a brass tube, and the bi metal spring inside on the other end. there is an arrow on the outside of it, but I was not sure of the coolant flow direction. Thanks again.

  • It may possibly be the original as they did not have the pointy end...like this?:

  • Hi Tim, does not look like that one, it has a flat sheet bi-metal wound spring inside the tube on one end, opposite the tube direction. At the other end inside the tube are 2 clam shell looking parts that are together when cold, and split open in the center when hot, these clam shell parts look cast, not sheet brass. will try to take a picture when i can get near the tractor in a couple of weeks. It's a 48 8N

  • The arrow points to coolant flow, out of the head and into the radiator..
