  • Ford 3000 covers

  • Finally managed to get a set of the sheetmetal steering box covers for my 3000.

The foot throttle even works without cutting the cover. I did have to bend a new control rod for that to sneak under the edge.

I can definitely see why many owners didn't bother putting the covers back on. You have to twist each piece just right to get them to fall in place.

Now if I can only figure out what the fourth hole in the dash under the ignition switch was for. Choke and light switch go on the right side.

  • I just purchased a 1974 3000. Everything works and it runs great. Only 2 problems. Temp gage and gas gage do not work. Gas is always full it say. Temp gage never moved. The guy I bought it from said he figured sending units both bad he though. Kind of hard to trouble shoot. You two guys have any advice on what to look for?

  • Remove mounting bolts to pull dash out and get to wiring on the back. I had to evict mice and clean out a nest built behind the dash. Mice chewing on wires caused most of the problems with my dash. You may have to shove some loose harness into the area to get enough slack to pull the dash out.

"temp gauge never moved" is most likely a wiring problem. Check for no voltage to the gauge, broken wire to sending unit, or wire not attached to sending unit.

"gas is always full" probably means you have voltage to the dash and a shorted wire going to the sending unit, or a shorted sending unit. The fuel sending unit is on top of the tank and accessible once the dash is out.

  • Looks good K.
Those are hard to find. So often people removed them to get under there and never replaced them so they were lost. A lot of guys don't even know they should be on there.
I have a few sets of those. If I ever get a tractor that has them I never let them go if I sell it. Have some for 2/3000s and a set or two for the 4000s which are different. They go into "private stock".
I don't know what went into the hole in the dash under the ignition switch though from the factory they had a push in plug. They are too small for the optional cig lighter. Maybe a switch for extra lights or something. I have a heavy, rubber covered push button switch I'm going to install there to power the thermostart feature in the diesel intake manifold - one of these days.
Is your choke disconnected? The right two holes should have the light sw above and choke below. I see in the pic yours is missing there.
It doesn't matter if you have an N, Hundred or Thousand it's still fun and satisfying to tinker with them and get all of the oem doo dads back in place.
