  • Knocking in Hydrolic Pump Area
  • I know this has been discussed before but I can't recall this.A little history,,I've been into the hydrolics (3)times and golly,,I see no issues about the pump. Before pulling I went through watching the pump area in action and no issues that I could tell.I've refurbished the ram cylinder area because of wear. The lift works but here's the question,,knocking from the pump area.Using the Ford I&T repair manual I find nothing (parts) I can call that need repair.I'm sure one can tell the pump is a foreign animal too me.For your help I thank you.

  • The hydraulic pump pistons are operated by cams and cam blocks that the PTO shaft passes thru. When new, the PTO shaft turns the cams, and push the pistons in and out, without making noise. As those cams and cam blocks wear, more and more clearance means they start knocking. They can knock pretty loud under load for a long time and still work just fine.
