  • N series tractor fenders
  • On my old 9n.. I noticed the right side (when seated) fender was more or less "straight up" and closer to the tire than the one on the left... which looks like it tilts in a bit towards the tractors centerline.
Just picked up an 8N last week... fenders do the same thing on it too.

Were they designed this way? and if so, why? Or.. did I just find two that have weirdly bent fenders? And how could someone bend em like that?

  • They stood straight up from the factory. It's probably been a using tractor for a good part of it's life. Most farmers, dairymen, grain farmers etc. would lean hard on the right side of the tractor fender when plowing, discing, fine dragging, etc.

I did and my sweetie used to sit on the right fender and hand me a beer as I made a couple of round when I was doing field work. My used JD B had a cant to right side fender and she only weighed a buck twenty.

Shim it if it bothers you. I like the classic usin' look

  • Both fenders should sit straight up. Don't know any reason someone would intentionally alter just one side. If you can loosen the bolts, look for shims or junk jammed under the tilted fender. If no shims, it may have just gotten bent. It shouldn't be too hard to bend the fenders back where they belong.

  • I always figure they should be 90 degrees to the axle. Clear the tires and chains and go straight up.

  • The tires are flared like that to keep mud from flying off and hitting you.
With the Arps tracks there are Z bars to move the fenders in for more clearance. They also raise the fenders about 4 inches.

  • All the correct N fenders on mine are designed to fit on the axles in a certain way but could be altered by a shem etc. on the axle or fender where they attach. There could be a slight bend toward the seat to allow for wider tires.Someone with more knowledge on this will chime in.
