  • Will the governor from a '49 8n be made to fit on a 2n. Kinda looks like the arms are different. Could they be swapped? How about the oil line. Can that be plugged or a new line run?

  • You can do the oil line. The various parts all fit in both housing.

  • Ok, so if it's just a parts swap and the levers/arms will fit in the different positions and hook up to the rods then I will give it a try. I haven't taken the 2n lever off yet but don't really see a fitting to connect an oil line to. However, it is all covered in grease!

  • You may have to change out the throttle control rod too ---ask Dan as he did his. You have the throttle control rod and the choke control rod but that's it. Parts books only show a 9N-9815-B and an 8N-9815 throttle rod with the 9N-9818-A being same for all.

  • HiYa Jim-
Yes, the 2-arm 8N governor can be retrofitted onto a 9N or 2N tractor that used the 3-arm governor. Here is a LINK, to a recent post about that, or scroll down this forum list and see it as it is still fresh. The original 9N governor had 3-arms, no oil lube inlet port -that was added later. It was deemed that it required additional lube so Ford engineers added an extra oil line to accommodate. We have a scan of the original Governor Service Manual in our MANUALS forum for FREE download too. When a farmer brought his tractor in to the dealer for service, it was advised to add the oil line if his was a prior governor without one. Hope this helps answer your questions...

  • Yes, everything did fit and line up correctly. The you tube video with Rachel from Steiner Tractor was most helpful in taking the governor apart.
