  • New Front Mount Distributor
  • I've noticed on E-Bay new (aftermarket I'm sure)front mount distributors at what I think is a way lower price than Ford N parts houses sell them for.I can't tell about the quality and looks can be decieving.Has anyone here used them.I also see used orriginals that probably need rebuilding thus after market parts would have to be used.I have a spare but it's out of commission at this time.Phooey !

  • I had a distributor with a worn-out housing bushing. It was an aftermarket distributor, and the housing bore was metric! I had to find a metric bushing and bore it to match the shaft. The shaft was the original Ford specification.

After replacing the bushing, I could adjust the points correctly.

  • I hadn't thought about the bushings being metric thus having to go thru having to bore them to orriginal specs. My "spare" at one time had a broken "ear" but had been fixed as professional.I can put new points and condenser and cap and it's good to go.I need to get these parts. Thanks fellas.

  • Had a time when a rebuilder tried to sell me a "rebuilt" distributor where one of the mounting ears had broken off (improper installation some time ago)and was neatly welded back on, cleaned up to look like new. Good luck trying to time that one.

  • Some of the aftermarket replacement castings are a little odd in places. Probably a copy of the casting for a different application that they think is "close enough" to work on a tractor. So far, I have not run into any differences that affect normal setup and tuning, other than replacement points being wrong. One distributor I have did need the screws under the top plate to be ground off nearly flush to keep them from being whacked by the advance assembly. Another solution for that would have been to put a thrust washer on top of the advance assembly and/or shove the top bushing down a touch.

  • There should be a thrust washer and snap ring between the advance assembly and the front bushing. These parts are on a distributor Im working on now.A few parts are the same as the 42 Ford V8.
