  • The aluminum hooded tractor that was advertised as 9n501 brought 9450.00 by a telephone bidder. Was definitely not the correct block looked like an 8n block. The dash number was #78 and the starter button hole was low like the very early ones were. Not sure why it was stamped as +9n501+.

  • I don't know why some of you are saying it is an 8N block -maybe, maybe not, but based on the single picture, don't assume because it has red paint it is an 8N block. I asked this below and received no answer.

  • Re: 9n501
  • there were freeze plugs/soft plugs on the side of the block the early 9ns had no freeze plugs and that h308 casting number made it a block cast on august 30 1948

  • OK, that is the answer we wanted. The solo photo alone of the s/n was not enough to make judgment on.

  • i looked but didnt see any....but there was paint and gunk..if they were there they were not obvious....i suspect it was changed out ....if it did have a straight cut gear sherman that was pretty rare

  • Re: 9n501
  • In all my years dealing with shermans I have never seen a straight cut step up/down. Even in early 9n they have all had helical and changed out gears. I would like to see one.
