  • I thought about this last night and came up with a wild notion that it may be possible too the guy knew all the wrong things on it but maybe he just wanted the aluminum hood for another project -anything is possible.

  • I thought about that too but an aluminum hood should only bring $2,000/$3000 or even $4,000. The rest of the tractor maybe $800. That's a far cry from $9450. Since it was a phone bid and the new owner did not view it in person he might be disappointed once the tractor arrives home.

  • Yes, Kirk, I thought that exactly too. We'll have to wait and see but we now know s/n 9N-501 is bogus. The hood and fenders are pretty much the only original early 9N parts on it so maybe he will use them and part out the rest. As I said earlier, every early 9N I've seen at auctions in the past two years have all had incorrect parts on them our discussions here gave fair warning so if he didn't do his homework, that's his own fault. Many 'all original' tractors like that were restored by a place or a fella who didn't really know what a true 'all original' 9N should have. They should really be called refurbished. There are but maybe a dozen or so people in the world who know what an early '39 9N should have. And none of them work at these 'restoration' places.

  • I know what you mean Tim. Like the '39 I just picked up the PO told me that the guy he bought it from referred to himself as a functional restorer. I told him judging from the tractor those two words don't belong in the same sentence.

  • Ya can't say we didn't try to warn buyers...too bad some fellas don't do their homework.

  • the only things i saw left on it was the hood...upper dash...correct quadrant and lever...and correct rear fenders...still wonder why someone stamped the block as #501...

  • I figured it would go for 1/2 the selling price. The new owner over paid in my humble opinion.
