  • Went out to Pa and picked up another '39 steel hood. Trans number is 9573, can't make out the engine number. It has right amount of welch plugs. Has 32's with oversize rubber with oversized rubber on fronts. Drove it on the trailer and 3pt works. still need work and repaint. Painted like an 8n???

  • Looks like you had a good weekend. Do you know what those tracks brought at the 501 sale? What that sediment bulb look like? That you are looking for.

  • ORIGINAL 9N BRASS SEDIMENT BULB ASSEMBLY:

Prone to leaking, but a few fellas have found solutions to fix that. Some work, some don't. A few years ago I bought a half dozen at the Palmer Fossum estate sale. I have two left but not selling either one.

  • Tim, you were at the Fossum auction in the rain? I was there with a friend and got stuck in 8" of mud in that field! Didn't buy much, idler arms and wheels for Arps tracks. Mine were rusted out. I have since sold the entire set.

  • HiYa John-
No, I wasn't at the actual auction. I had been contacted by Loren, Palmers' son, a few moths prior to the auction and asked if I was interested in any parts and/or tractors before they went to auction. Loren said they had a list of names that Dad had of people that he had done business with in all his years and were giving them all first priority at anything. I ended up with a two 9N-10000-B generators, a half dozen brass sediment bulbs, two cast iron governors, and a few other NOS 9N parts. I do recall that weekend of the auction had lousy weather and the turnout was low. It has been my honor and privilege to have spoken with Palmer several times as well. We discovered
that he once came here to my town of Attica, MI where I was at the time, to pick up an early 9N he bought from a local dealer. The dealer was but a mile from my home and the visit was a year or so earlier but we never made the connection in person.

  • I got to visit Palmer's farm the year F/FCA met in LeSeuer Co, Minn. Somewhere I have pictures of all his tractors scattered around his farm. Too bad we were flying home. Hard to carry a tractor onto a plane.

  • I wasn't at the auction so I don't know what the tracks. Typically sell for between $500/$700 around here but in an auction setting anything can happen.
I believe the early ones were brass. Most were leakers and got changed out

  • It's missing the snap in lid for the hood. Are they still reproducing them for the steel hoods?

  • I bought a snap in cover from Red Rock Mfg. about three years ago. They are made by Michael Stephan up in Pine City, MN. His phone is 320-629-2200 or 320-496-0189. Very good job on mine.

  • Nice find Kirk. How about a small genny, 4-spoke, alum grille, brass sed. bulb, et al? Details! I don't believe anyone is repopping the battery covers right now. There was a guy, Roger Forst, who was making them years ago but he no longer is doing so. I got one shortly before he stopped and it fits like a glove, no problems whatsoever. I think if we kept asking Carpenter he'd start repoppin' them as he did with the 2N battery cover.

  • Big Genny,2n steering wheel, grill is aftermarket 8n which didn't fit right so he tack weld to doglegs, luckily not tacked to hood. PO replaced the sediment bowl and threw the other one out.
Thank for the info on the snap lid.
