  • I'm looking for a original radiator cap, air box breather tube to carburetor, and the air box sediment bowl that has the name ATLAS MASON on it. The one that came with this 2N I just got is cracked.

    Thanks
    Tony

  • ESSENTIAL MANUALS
  • Tony- here are the essential manuals every 9N and 2N tractor owner should have on their coffee table, nightstand, shop bench library. The I & T F-04 manual (bottom left) and the '39-'53 MPC (bottom central)are very important for every N-Owner regardless of model year. Pictured here, top row, left to right are the 9N/2N Instruction Book; the 9N/2N Service Manual; and the 9N/2N Plow Instruction Book, the latter not essential but valuable to have nonetheless. The bottom row also has a copy of the original early 9N Owner/Instruction Manual with some good information and the bottom right manual has a ton of good information and pictures with instructions and tips for preventative maintenance. All of these can be found as original, used copies or purchased as new reproductions at most Ford Tractor Parts suppliers. You need to study the parts and service manuals thoroughly as what was originally on the tractor new may no longer be there now. For example, the early 1939 9N used a brass sediment bulb assembly, was prone to leaking, and was replaced soon after.

  • Original 2N Radiator caps pop up on fleabay all the time. you are confusing/compounding words/items here. the Fuel Sediment Bowl/Bulb is a different animal, in the fuel system, not air cleaner system. The Cyclone Air Pre-Cleaner was an option, never an OEM factory item. They were made by Air Cleaner Service and they had their own glass jar but also could use a standard round 1/4 Pint MASON jar. Dennis Carpenter repops al but the Cyclone housing itself and you can get exact repros of the glass jar and rubber gaskets needed. There were 3 versions of the Cyclone. One fit 9N/2N Air Cleaners, one fit 8N air cleaners and one fit NAA cleaners. If you are looking for an origin al 9N/2N Cyclone unit, complete, contact me.

By the way, Don Barkley said they were never painted gray, not the 9N style anyway.

  • The second picture shows a smaller bottle similar to mine.
1/2 pint I believe. What other color was the filter unit painted?

  • Re: 9N CYCLONE
  • Tony-
My original 9N Pre-Cleaner is black but Don B says they were 'silver' probably meant plain unpainted metal. Again, these were made so you could use a 1/2 pint MASON jar too. MASON/ATLAS/KERR/BALL -they're all the same. As for the parts you seek, do you have an ebay account? If not you won’t be able to buy or sell parts/items anyway there. It doesn’t cost anything but you also have to open a PayPal account, again no charge, from which you pay and get paid for your items directly from your bank account. Dennis Carpenter reproduces many of the parts that were used on these old N’s and the air cleaner tube and the Cyclone parts are some of them. The Sediment Bowl is under the gas tank and opens and closes to allow fuel to the carb –has nothing to do with the Cyclone Air Precleaner. Used, original air cleaner tubes pop up all the time on ebay but rarely do any 9N Cyclones they are usually the 8N and NAA styles. Do you have the essential N-Owner manuals –I&T F-04 and the ’39-’53 MPC at least?

  • Re: 9N CYCLONE
  • Interesting that they didn't paint them. My cyclone air box is rusty as if it wasn't painted. I will start an ebay account. I wish I can figure out how to post pictures.
I ordered a manual but not sure witch one. I'll be getting it next week. The service manual in your picture is not the one.
I see the Dennis Carpenter site has the glass jar, tube to carburetor,
Thanks for the info. I'll email you regarding the generator.

  • You tried to use your Photo-Chuckit account which won't allow you to share your images any longer unless you buy into their $400 per year 'premier' account. I don't anyone who succumbed to this stupidity. You can go to IMGUR and get a free account, at least as of today it was still free, and store your photos there. Then to post, click on the image you want, it pops up, go to the menu and select a size - I use Large Thumbnail - then go the right hand side bar and click on DIRECT and it will copy the URL for that image. Then you paste it into your message post. Adding html code will allow more options.

  • That must be a typo...should be a 1/2 pit jar.
I don't believe the original jars had any writing on them.

  • Re: 2N Parts
  • Yep,1/2 pint. Original jars had a ribbed center and the name Air Cleaner Services on the bottom. Carpenter's jar is exact. If one used a mason jar, it could have MASON or ATLAS name on it. I broke two originals in my life. The first one got busted while I was transporting my tractor to a show in Missouri. After that I kept the whole Cyclone assembly in a box in the truck when I went to shows and assembled it at the show, took it off when transporting tractor back home. Then at one show I was putting it on and the jar slipped and I dropped it on the ground and it just happened to land on a stone and broke. I still transport it separately but am more careful when assembling -I put a blanket on the ground underneath it.

  • Re: 2N Parts
  • Got my jar from the local grocery store $8 for a dozen jars. Probably why it hasn't broke yet ;-) If I wasn't so cheap I would get a repop jar or at least one that didn't have grapes all over it.

  • Re: 2N Parts
  • Things break when you least expect it. I had mine sitting on the ground with other parts and forgot that the jar was there. This one has ATLAS at the top of the jar and MASON on the bottom. It looks very old but not sure if it's original. It's 1/2 pint.

  • Not the original Air Cleaner Services jar but they were made to use a standard 1/2 pint MASON jar as I said...do you have the Cyclone on your air cleaner now? Pictures?

  • Tim,
When did they first offer the cyclone air cleaner? Would they have been available in '39 or were they a 2n thing?
