  • Fuel Cut Off Valve
  • Has anyone ever installed a lever type fuel cut of valve just after the factory valve sediment bowl? I am trying to find a way of turning off the fuel without having to turn the knob on the factory valve on and off several times as I work on the tractor. If I leave it on for more then 5 minutes the carb starts to drip. I just figured I would save myself some time. If someone has, explain the type and where you bought it.
    Thanks
    Tony

  • some how adding a electric device to a fuel line with gas in it sounds like a bomb in the making because god knows electric devises never fail right

  • Only a billion or so examples of electrical devices in the fuel line safely on the road today ;-)

  • How about the Ford trucks that have burned when a cruise control power switch failed and set fire to brake fluid in the master cylinder. The switch was made by Texas Instruments. My Ford had a different switch.

  • Point taken about electric fuel pumps and electric shut off valves used commercially my thought he was looking for something not approved for fuel maybe something used for air or water relax have a beer

  • Update
  • Thanks for all the tips and modifications. I've had a garage fire do to a leaking carburetor a long time ago. This was do to a bad fuel line. The first time I saw a carb was in a Willys jeep back in 65. Today I own 3 cars with carbs. This tractor is the first machine I've owned that has the fuel tank above the carburetor. Even if I bought a new carb I would feel nervous about leaving the fuel on for more than a few minutes.
it's kind of like someone breaking into your house and steeling a lot of your stuff including your tools. Now I have alarms and cameras. Funny how that works.
Rebuild kit on it's way, and still looking for a lever valve. 12v electric unit might not work do to this 6V battery.

  • You might look at motor cycle parts. I like the honda fuel valves. One side off, down is on, otherside is reserve.

  • I shut off the gas when a tractor is going to set for a spell, so I have to agree w/Tony. I, too would like to find a good source for the right valve. My tractors don't leak, but I (sometimes) like to be overly cautious. Keeps me from having the wife ask (& ask, & ask, & ask....) where the gas smell in the garage is coming from!

  • My tractors are not garage broke, they stay in the tractor shed where the wife never ventures! That said, I sue the OEM shutoff, only turn it two turns, the tractor with the magneto I turn the fuel off and walk away with it running, by the time I get to the house it runs out of gas.

  • Root Cause Problem Solving: Get the carb rebuilt, don't try applying 'Band-Aids', or re-inventing the wheel. If you wish, I will rebuild your carb - email and I can help. I have a Marvel-Schebler TSX-33 carb already to go.

  • Re: Fuel Cut Off Valve
  • just a thought might be better to fix carb it is ether a bad or dirty needle and seat or is float setting is to high providing you don't have a bad or sinking float also check that the seat is tight in the carb it self just my two cents good luck

  • " If I leave it on for more then 5 minutes the carb starts to drip."

If your tire starts losing air, would you fix it or buy a compressor?

It would be a lot cheaper and easier to fix the carb.

  • Naaah, Bruce, build a custom rotary joint set up to supply air path from center of spindle to tire valve stem and add engine driven compressor/regulator system so as to keep tire inflated even with a leak (ala Humvee). :)

  • JMOR sounds like it would be easier to put a 3 point hitch on a Humvee then fix this carb

This: A NASA standard perambulator valve with an add on olfactory sensor operated by a tenacious (obstreperous quality) 6/12V TECHNOISOMANUIPULATOR #1 controller, which will allow operation from anywhere in the world using your iPhone.

Since level of geekery is beyond my ability, I'd have to go with the Ace hardware alternative and a new needle and seat.
