  • oil,filter canister
  • recently brought home 9n6637. very complete except it had no oil filter canister, pipe plug in the block under where the canister line should be connected and one line running to the oil pressure gauge from the back of the block. governor is cast iron with no provisions for a line as it should be. I bought all new oil lines and junctions & a used canister. the canister bolted up fine but none of the lines fit. the short line from the bottom of the canister to the block is 1/2 inch to long and the line from the side of the canister to the rear junction is about 1 inch to short.
Is there a difference between 9n-8n canisters, or did I get a mislabeled TO canister?

  • Well if you bought parts for a TO tractor, chances are they won't fit. The TO model is a Ferguson tractor, not the Ford 9N or 2N model. If indeed you have s/n 9N -6637, it is an early model, first year produced, 1939. The early 9Ns had no oil line feeding the governor either but later governors had a line piped on and fed back to the oil canister. Try Just8Ns for the correct oil lines, pre-cut and fitted exact. I have my grandfathers early '39 9N Ford-Ferguson *9N-653I* s/n so we would be real close in engine block assembly and approval.

  • lines & blocks are from j8ns for 9n, guess I should have been clearer. Will a TO canister bolt up to a 9n block? Is that why the lines wont fit? Next step would be to get another canister. If so the difference in the canisters must be subtle.

  • I don't know if a Ferguson canister will work, maybe, but if Harold can't hook you up, here's an original on fleabite...
