  • 52 8N Hydraulic Lift Handle Sliding Down
  • I have a 52 8N with a Sherman Hi/Lo. The hydraulics were rebuilt a couple years ago and work well with one exception. Occasionally while lifting an implement (usually my 5 ft box scraper) from the ground with the hydraulic handle in the full up position and the scraper traveling upwards, the handle will sometimes slide back down causing the implement to stop lifting or lower again. I have managed to catch it every time so far. The lever doesnít seem to have much tension when moved up/down or securely stay in the up position during transport. Is there any way to put any more friction on the lever or is this an indication of a mechanical hydraulic issue? Thanks!

  • Sometimes the spring is broken.

  • Thanks! I think that is my issue. I will dig into ordering and replacing it.

  • Relacing the friction disc is not easy. The die cast part the handle bolts on to will be stuck to the shaft.I had to use a puller on the last one I replaced. The part breaks easy and can cost 30 bucks.

  • I tried penetrating oil and prying from multiple sides of the friction control plate without it budging. I guess I will go get a small pulley puller and try that. Rusty you mentioned a spring? I didnít see one in the parts diagram, but maybe I overlooked it.

  • Penetrating oil and letting it sit for a while seemed to help. I eventually was able to coax it off with a couple small pry tools. The cork disc was dry rotted and worn out. Waiting for the replacement disc in the mail for assembly.
