  • TAURUS TAILLIGHT -UPDATE
  • Finally, Dennis Carpenter has resolved the issues with repopping the TAURUS TAILLIGHT and now offers the complete unit. I don't have the details as they have not updated their web site yet with prices and description. The recent issue of 'Ferguson Furrows' has an article about them. Up til now, you could only get the red lens, the clear lens, gaskets, the license plate bracket, and the mounting bracket and bolt for the TAURUS. They are available with a polished stainless steel (chrome plated?) bezel and the painted bezel as well. Good news for restorers of 9N, 2N, and early 8N as well as Ferguson owners as they were used on all those models. In 1949 Ford went with the DUOLAMP taillight, which Carpenter has been reproducing for years. Watch his web site for details.

  • Dang, that's a pretty good looking reproduction. I've got a couple of originals for sale. May have to lower my price.

  • An original is worth double what the repops cost, maybe more, in my opinion. There are always subtle differences in the repops.

  • Yeah, there are some glitches in it, fit of bezel and incorrect bezel screws used, but not bad price. Plus the originals had some fit issues as well. I have had and restored probably a hundred or more of these, have a few to sell as well, and kept a few of the better NOS ones for myself. Did you now some were made with brass shells? I have one in my collection. Any one interested in an original TAURUS, my email is open...

  • Tom-
We're still trying to figure out the brass TAURUS lights. One theory was they were used in WWII, but I doubt it. The US War Board had restrictions on critical materials, even halting production on many products, and brass certainly qualified for that. TAURUS lights were also used on some GMC, Chevy, Pontiac, and Chrysler products. The red lens was supplied by STIMONSNITE and they also supplied the auto industry.
