  • Generator question
  • My 9n has a 6v generator with a regulator or cutout (round thing) mounted to the top of it. My neighbor also has a 1940 9n and his regulator is also round but mounted under his battery, not on the actual generator. Why is this? Is one location more preferable than the other?

  • Under the battery cut out is where Ford placed it. Yours is a modification and maybe not original type generator, since such gen wouldn't have had holes in barrel for mounting a cut out.

  • The Model T,A and Ford V8 used a generator with a cutout mounted on the generator until late 1938.An oval shaped cutout was used.It did regulate voltage level.I have seen Ford tractors with the car generator on them.
