  • More Radiator Woes
  • I finally got started pulling the engine off my 3000 this weekend. I was not happy to discover a big fan gouge on the back of the radiator. Looks like someone tried to solder several tubes that were opened. It will need to go to a radiator shop and be re-cored while I have the engine on a stand. It's been so long since I had any radiator work done, I'm not sure there are any radiator shops left that still re-core these old radiators. No, I'm not going to try fixing this with Bars Leaks, grin.

  • I called a local radiator shop about putting a new core in mine; it had seen the fan blades at some time in the past and been soldered up. The guy said on the phone it would be at least $300-$350 and maybe more. I decided to leave it as it was since it wasn't leaking and was cooling fine.

  • Radiator re-cores in this part of the country are quite expensive. For the past two years, I've been restoring a five-seven GMC 4x4 fire department rescue truck and had to have its radiator re-cored - cost me $537! Also, when I restored my '56 Ferguson F40 back in '15, that re-core cost me $425. Best of luck to you brother!

  • Modern Radiator in Petersburg. Worth the trip for quality work. Call him first; it's a one-man show. 804-733-0381.

He has done a lot of work for Model A club members as well as a few 8N's.
