  • Piston rings question
  • I am the process to install pistons in the block. The pistons are 4 rings. I want install the 3 ring set. Would it be better to install the oil ring in the third or the forth grove?

  • In spit of what others have said, I know of quit a number of N engines that ran with three rings on a four ring piston. Bottom groove empty. The four ring piston setup never lasted due to not enough lube for the compression rings.

  • As per the answer on the other forum... don't leave a groove empty... 4 on 4 & 3 on 3...
