  • 850 starves for fuel
  • Hi everyone
I have a 56 850 that starts up and runs great but on hot days it stops getting gas I open the fuel cap and bubbles are coming into the tank from the fuel line. I have tried rerouting the line to keep it cooler. If I run it in the evening itís just fine it only does it in the day when the sun is beating down.
    Thanks
    Nick

  • "...on hot days it stops getting gas I open the fuel cap and bubbles are coming into the tank from the fuel line....". Bubbles not likely coming from fuel line, most likely the gas is boiling in the tank. Ensure other items are correct -rerouting the fuel line probably didn't do anything and really not needed. Heat shield in place? Is the correct carb installed? Tank dirty and/or vent plugged? Install a vented gas cap. The debate goes on whether the 10% ethanol mix gasoline today is the root cause of gas boiling, and you can search the archives here for all the past discussions on that so I'm not going to go into it here. There are many opinions, facts and fallacies, and much discussion on that. Some claim non-ethanol gas is the solution, but I'm from Missouri so 'show me the data'. In other words, check all the usual items first and don't just assume because someone said that was the fix, they are right.

  • On my 860 I drilled a 1/8" hole in the center of the gas cap because of action like this.
