  • 8n starter brushes
  • I just removed my starter and the innards came out of the casing. How do I get the brushes to go back in?

  • We have a lot of useful information in our HOW-TO's Forum -Click on the LINK below to see one on starter repair. Also, your original 8N Operator's Manual as well as the I&T F-04 Manual have the procedures too. The MPC's have part lists and exploded views. The LINK is from the lime-green 8N SERVICE MANUAL for DEALERS & MECHANICS.

  • Next time, check out tip # 36 before you pull the starter.

And, do check out tip # 52 before you mess w/ the Bendix.

There are plenty of ways to put the starter back together. Some folks use alligator clips, toothpicks or dental floss to hold the brushes back. Others remove the metal band and paper gasket, then put the starter back together. Pull the brushes up thru the holes that the band was covering. Use long nose pliers to pull the brush springs up. Move each one to the right and let them rest on the brush holder. Put each brush into the holder. Pull up each spring and place it on each brush. Put the gasket and metal band back on.
