  • brake lock repair kit.
  • I have a 4610 SU that I have a problem with the brake lock slipping a couple notches, and sometimes releasing completely. It appears to me that I would have to buy a whole new left pedal to fix the problem because the little toothed part that is welded to the pedal is worn. I tried filing the teeth deeper, but that didn't help. Someone suggested to me that there might be an aftermarket repair kit for it, since there are so many of those series tractors out there. Does anybody know of such a kit and where I might get one. The last time it released, the tractor was pointing down a pretty steep hill with a 7' Woods mower on back. It slammed into a tree. The weight rack prevented it from getting my radiator but it broke a piece off the casting between the engine and front axle. Totaled my weight rack. I really would like to fix this situation and would sure appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

  • I've never heard of a repair kit but haven't looked either.
I think you could just replace the entire pedal with one that has a good pawl.
Am pretty sure the pedals are the same on ALL the 3cyl models from 1965 through your 10 Series.
Take your old one off and go to a bone yard and match it up to be sure.
Or here's one from a 3600 on ebay.

  • Thanks for the reply. I suspect I'll have to replace the pedal, but I'll look some more for a repair kit first. I suspect that before I buy one off eBay I ought to check with New Holland for price and compatibility of the 3600 series, or are you pretty sure that would fit?

  • Since that pawl is welded onto the pedal I would say it is a part of the pedal itself and not an individual part you can buy.
You would have to cut the old one off and weld the new one on. Getting it placed exactly would take some doing as it has to be reasonably precise to engage the other part acurately.
I'm a good welder/fabricator but if that were my tractor I would just replace the pedal as the easiest way out.
Are there any boneyards near you?
It's not hard to remove that pedal. A bit of monkeying around to remove the step plate and brake linkages, etc but really not at all complicated. Then take it to the boneyard and match it up. I probably have one. Might have a couple. One off a 4400and one from a 3000. I think either will fit. Trouble is they are up at my land and it will be a few weeks till I get up there. If you were willing to wait I could check. I'm thinking $20 plus shipping for one.
Send me an email with your phone # if you are interested.
Those SUs are fantastic tractors by the way.
52 hp, independent pto, PS, differential lock, double reduction rear end, superb disc brakes. All on a platform that is short, low and very nimble.

  • I don't have your email, nor do I know how to get it if there is a way through ntractor. My phone number is 607-768-1860. I am definitely interested. If I do not answer, please leave a message and I will get right back to you.
