  • Smarter than I am. Anything broken always becomes another project, especially if it's something different. Last week I got sucked into fixing the neighbor's Newer Spreader. At least he hosed the big chunks off before bringing it over.

  • Yep, nothing like a neighbor coming over and asking you to weld a couple of new flights on his spreader pretty much fresh from the field. And.... While you're at it, do ya think you can build up a couple of the teeth on the drive sprocket while you got it here?

  • Title is error. Distributor problem was NOT solved, simply side-stepped!

  • These were great posts. I'm sure the forum veterans get tired of the same questions; but for newcomers just the discussion, the lingo and the advice are just great. Thank you to everyone. BTW I'm working on my 8N and would love to have a 9N also

  • Hope this one runs fine now. You may try and sell the old one as a whole or in parts. It would be wise to get closure though that it is indeed a frozen engine/bad timing gear before tossing it away. Not much $$$ in a tractor with a frozen engine, but parting out may help recoup some of your investment.

  • Guess that was cheaper & easier than replacing a timing gear.

  • Re: Solved the 9N distributor problem
  • That's if the timing gear was/is the root cause problem. We have no absolute proof yet that it is. It is only speculation, opinion, not fact. You'd think Doug would've at least explored the last few tests we advised him on before plunking down $$$ for an 8N. I only hope Doug has better luck with his new 8N now and chalk it up to lessons learned. Ya can't say we didn't try.

  • Re: Solved the 9N distributor problem
  • He said "took the governor off the timing gear will not move that is what is locked up "

    Crank moves.

    Timing gear does not.

    What else could it be?

  • Re: Solved the 9N distributor problem
  • yeah, too bad it's got a Model A/Model B/Early V8 generator or I'd make an offer for it and some of the other parts.
