  • You did the first step correctly by posting here. The second step was just luck, in that I saw it and believe this to be what you are looking for. Last I knew, Tisco, YT, and NAPA were sources.

    points IGS2224LB and BWD #A81
    condenser IAT3076HS
    rotor IGP1016D and ECH #AL150
cap IBK1009 and Prestolite #3-129 and ECH #AL165

  • JMOR, you seem to know a lot about this. I think you may have useful information for me. If I had this distributor would it cause the normal 8N distributor cap to no fit correct as in being very tight if you tried to install it on this distributor? I have twice tried replacing the distributor cap on my tractor with a new on and both times I had to squeeze it on then as soon as I turned the engine over it broke the distributor cap. I'm wondering if this is my problem and solution.

  • The two distributors differ in many ways. I believe you will find that the cap on the Prestolite slips inside the body of the distributor , whereas the Ford cap fits over the outside of distributor body. The rotor of Prestolite is much larger than Ford and fits over a larger shaft. I don't think the two could be easily confused. If I could see your distributor I could determine of Prestolite or Ford in an instant.

  • Well that's definitely not what I have then. I don't know what mine is but it's obviously out of spec with the replacement caps. I need a knew cap but it looks like I'll have to replace entire distributor.

  • I would not replace a good OEM distributor. Try a different cap & rotor from a different supplier and be sure you have the spring clip on the distributor shaft that serves to hold the rotor firmly in place.

  • I ordered one from DB Electric and bought another from Tractor Supply. Same problem with both went on very tight then broke when I turned the engine over. I assume by forcing it on the base it compressed the top and caused the rotor to catch on one of the connection points for the plug wires. It broke the cap on both attempts and the rotor in one.

  • Do you have the spring clip on the shaft under the rotor? Is you distributor an original Ford distributor or an after market distributor? Pictures?
