  • Farmer Dan, I have reason to be in Michigan next week. How far are you from Hart Michigan?

  • Hi Steve,
I retired a year and a half ago. My back became so painful that I did not feel I was doing my job as well as I should have. Then I blew a knee and really slowed down. I retired and immediately had the knee replaced, now if only they would make a replacement back. Anyway, we bought a house on 30 acres pretty close to our existing 178 acres. I see no neighbors, probably only 4 cars per day go down the road and one of those is the school bus, another is the mailman. Nice and quiet just the way I like it.The only down side is that there is no internet or cell phone service here at the house. The upside is that there is no cell phone to bother with. When I go to town I catch up on things. I hope all is well with you.

  • Bad news is I can't travel. Good news is I have a good coffee maker, good cook and two spare bed rooms. You are more than welcome to stay here the night and save you the cost of a hotel room. If we plan this right we may be able to get Tim and John here too and I can make us a pot roast and beer for dinner.

  • Farmer D, sorry to hear you can't travel, may I ask why? I appreciate the offer of spending the night but I'm afraid that is not a possibility. This trip will be rushed to say the least. I am considering, rather trying to work out a schedule to leave Tuesday and Arrive back home Wednesday. Regardless of travel times and days I do not want to be stuck anywhere close to Chicago for any longer than it takes to drive past. While I will not be spending the night in your area I am interested in that cup of coffee. email me a phone number and I will contact you. I will do my best to come by your place for an hour or so if possible. Meeting others would also be nice but back to that schedule thing again.

  • I am in so long as God is willing and the creek don't rise and I will bring the ingredients for my venison chili. I passed up another buck this evening -too small, a 1-1/2 year old 6-pointer. I've been watching a huge doe all season. She is the biggest deer I have ever seen on the farm. I'll take her in the late antlerless season beginning December 19 thru January 1. Tomorrow, November 30, is the last day of the regular firearm season. December 1 thru January 1 the archery season runs phase II. December 2 begins the muzzle loading season and runs to December 18. I'm still holding out for at least one killer buck and there is plenty of time left.

  • Rock-
Let us know your plans. I am 125 miles north of Dan, a straight shot down I-69 so we can plan on all meeting at Dan's one day. I can do any day after the 3rd. John in MI, aka "Barnstormer" and I did this a few months ago and spent the day with Dan.

  • It looks like my route will take me up 196. I will likely be coming through Michigan in the afternoon of December 5th. My plan is to leave early in the morning, drive to Hart, load a tractor and head home. the trip will take a bit over 9 hours one way clock time for me so a sleep over in a motel somewhere will be necessary. I will return home on the 6th. If you are interested, pick a convenient spot on my route and we can get together for a cup of coffee, meal etc..

  • Hart is about 165 miles north west of me. If you are coming up I-69 you will be within one mile of my house. IF taking 131 North that would be half hour west of me.
