  • Drawbar question
  • I was just looking at Ebay, and there is a very different draw bar on there. It only has 4 holes in it and looks to have a Dearborn tag on it next to a Ford tag.Its listed as original Ford draw bar #3 anybody know about this thing?

  • MORE FAKE NEWS
  • OK, I found the part in question, auction ended, some unknowing poor soul bought it, so here are the pictures to convince anyone who still thinks this a 'real' FORD/Dearborn item. I said it below and will say it agin. FORD/DEARBORN never made a 4-Hole drawbar like the 9N-5182 type AND never put any tag on it. This is definetly a ho-made item. Note the way the tags are put on. Does that look professional to you? Hardly. The biggest tell? The RH tag is a Dearborn ID Tag for sure, but look closely at the Model Number box. It has a '14' prefix. The number '14' was the prefix code Dearborn & Ford used to ID MOWERS!!!! Also, note the ring welded on. WTF??? Ever see a Ford drawbar with that before? Hardly. Someone went thru a lot of work to make this and by the patina on it, was done a long time ago. Maybe the buyer knows all this and just wanted something unique to hang on his barn/shop wall. Who really knows but the truth is it is a definite fake.

    BOGUS “DEARBORN” DRAWBAR:

  • Well time your eyes are a lot younger than mine! I could make out the outline of the tag , but could not read any of the text. Thats why I brought it up here in the first place, I had never seen anything like it. I wonder if they filled all the other holes in the drawbar. It seems to be easier to pass something off if you take blurry pictures!

  • Yep, seller may or may not had been trying to pass off a bogus item -we'll never know I guess. Any seller with scruples and knowledge of Ford & Dearborn parts would have deduced it to be fake in my opinion. It goes to show you that most sellers have no clue what they have. They don't even bother to attempt to do research on the part/item. Many just go by whatever someone else told them. "...well, my granddaddy had this Krinch-Meyer knob on his 9N so it must be original...". It only proves/emphasizes what I stated before, and that is that there only about a handful or so of good, honest, Ford Tractor part sellers on ebay. The Dearborn tag is obvious with the '14' part prefix clearly visible. The LH tag I can't read anything on it all by the poor fuzzy pictures he posted. The mis-alignment alone of the tags should have been a big clue. We learn new stuff everyday. Do your homework when buying anything.

  • HiYa Doug-
I just looked on fleabay and couldn't find it. Has the auction ended or can you post the LINK? Someone asked this last week and I thought I gave a reply. Here's the scoop: DEARBORN MOTORS never made and sold the 9N-5182 11-hole drawbar. They did offer the famous SWINGING DRAWBAR for the OEM 8N-802 Clevis Bracket that came on every new 8N and NAA tractor. The FORD 11-Hole Drawbar was part of a shipping Parts kit, 2N-17003 issued with each new tractor. Originals had the FORD p/n "9N-5182" cast raised and some, but not all, also had the FORD script logo as well. When Harry Ferguson was fired by Henry Ford II and went o England to build his TO2O tractor, he used a set of 9N Blueprints to fashion it after. He even had the gall to use the Ford part numbers minus the FORD 9N prefixes obviously, so many of the TO20 parts had the same Ford basic UPC number. Thus the Ferguson drawbar carried the Ferguson cast raised logo, an [HF] in a box, plus the part number of '5182' also cast raised. In order to avoid any copyright penalties, Ferguson made his drawbar with only 9 holes as well.

  • Re: Drawbar question
  • I'd say if the tag was riveted on, someone did it or it was on some aftermarket part/company. Again, Ford/Dearborn Motors never made a 4-hole drawbar similar to the 11-holer. There were some later Ford drawbars that had only a few holes. Back in 1975 I began working at company where I cut my teeth on NC Machining. We also machined some solid drawbars for Ford Tractor. They were service parts and got shipped to England from us. As solid steel castings, we simply drilled and reamed a set of holes in them and that was it. I recall two different drawbars; one long rectangular and one shorter with a hook on one end. There weren't very many holes in them. I recently saw one on ebay. Also, Dearborn Motors used the familiar diamond logo with their name inside. Was this tag like that? It's also possible it was put on by someone stealing a tag from another implement.

  • I seen it yesterday morning, gone today. It had two tags on it riveted to the top, may have been covering holes. It was a dearborn equipment tag, couldn't make out the numbers, the other one couldn't make it out. Both tags were towards the middle almost as if it was used to run some offset equipment. I was think maybe a forage harvester or something like it.
