  • EARLY 9N GENERATOR BRUSHES
  • Yeah, I know this should be in ADS, but not everyone reads those. I recently acquired a lot of NOS/OEM generator brushes for the 9N-10000-A and 9N-10000-B small generators. I will gladly supply a set to anyone who wants/needs a pair for $10 shipping included. Each generator used a different brush and they do not interchange. The 9N-A used two fixed brushes, with wire and tab connected, p/n 9N-10069-A, and the 9N-B used the 9N-10069-B fixed brushes, wire and tab included, and for the adjustable 3rd Brush. The 1940 MPC shows the 9N-B generator using 3 of these brushes, including one as the 3rd Brush adjusting unit. These brushes are only good for the two early 9N small generators. Quantity limited. Just offering to any and all early 9N restorers needing a set. My email is open for details offline.

  • IMPORTANT NOTE
  • I've been swamped with numerous requests for brushes, many via email. Please be sure to specify which brush you need and give a mailing address so I can prepare your package. I also need to stress, because a few have inquired, that these brushes are ONLY for the two early small 9N generators -either the A or the B unit. They will not fit/work on any other Ford generator. The 9N-10000-C generator and the 2N-10000 generator, both virtually identical inside and out*, use 3 brushes; two 40-10069 and one 40-10070 (3rd Brush). (* The 2N has the belt tensioning device bolted on the barrel). These brushes are the larger wafers and still available from Dennis Carpenter and Just8Ns. The OEM kit, p/n 40-10043, includes two 40-10069's and one 40-10070 brush. Now they list all 3 as the 40-10069 style. These were used in all the generators up thru the early 8N that are the 3-Brush type units and at 11.5 AMP output. When the 8N-10000-B generator was released, it was now a larger unit, 2-Brush style, and output was at 20 amps. The brushes for it are also still available, p/n is 01A-10069. These have a wire and mounting tab installed.

  • Hi Tim,

I can use a pair for my A generator, the ones in there are not very good.

  • Tim i will take a couple pictures of mine and send them to you to compare to yours. As you said in your email seems like more than one app. for brushes with the same markings that do not show up in catalog Thanks, Doug

  • Doug-
Dont worry about the markings so much, it is the design of each brush and its application that are important. Here are the two brushes used in both the early 9N-A and 9N-B generators. They are both marked MP35 because they are the SAME brush/wafer. It is the tabs which are different. Even the wire appears to be the same. The wafers measure .60 - .62 square x .2 thick. I dont know why the later larger 40-10069 brushes are also marked MP35. The 9N Brushes were ONLY used on those specific generators. They were not ever used on anything else. The generators and their brushes were specific to the 9N tractor, hence the 9N prefix. A part prefix denoted what module the part was first used on. When Ford released the 9N-10000-C generator, it was now a larger barrel, a larger armature, output rated at 11.5 amps, and thus required larger brushes. The 9N-C used two brushes already in the system. The 40-10069 was used for the two fixed brushes, and the 40-10070 was used for the single adjustable 3rd brush. Here are the two early 9N generator brushes:
