  • I think that when a person removes the coil to do a tune-up, often it gets set down on the workbench with the pigtail facing down and perhaps gets mashed down hard thus causing it to retract a bit. If it isn't checked at reinstall, obvious problems will result. Maybe we need to establish a set criteria for the pigtail to be set at and added to the front-mount distributor tune-up process documents? Whad'dya think? I just measured one of the half dozen I have here in my kitchen and I get 1.00" from the gasket surface to the pigtail point.

  • My point is...
  • Point I'm trying to make is the coil primary spring is not touching the distributor primary contact screw. I have several coils laying around and three of them have this same problem. Just one more thing to check if you have a no start problem. I have no idea how the springs get compressed like this but it is an easy fix.

  • What!?!?!?! There are TWO places that provide UNINTERRUPTED primary current flow... doesn't do much for SPARK but the current flow should be smooth and even... And it looks Clean... hahaha

  • Don't you know a gap allows the voltage to build up making for a hotter spark? At least that is the theory.

  • Looks to me like you might want to get the big hold down snap ring away from the spring of the points also.
