  • I have an early '43 warhorse that has weak spark. I'd like to install new points and condenser as I have no idea when they were last installed by the previous owner.

My question: Can the magneto and attached drive assembly simply be removed from the tractor like you would a front mount distributor, or is it best to leave it connected to the tractor and pull the hood to gain access to the points?

  • BruceNY,BruceNY You czn take the mag off at the adapter,or pull the adapter abd mag together.Mag off tje adapter is easier, ether way just follow the instructions below.Get the engine on #1 compression stroke before removing the mag is best.

  • It can be removed to be worked on, but when it is reinstalled , it will have to be timed. a bit more than just reinstalling a front mount.
there is a section in the service manual thats talks about the magneto.

I got a magneto on a 8n that has an industrial engine in it. It has been about 7 years now and I haven't touched it since I rebuilt the engine.
