  • winter storm coming next week?
  • I've only fired up the 3000 twice this winter that's fine with me. We got a couple inches Saturday here so got her out on Sunday. Sounds like we will be getting a nasty winter storm next weekend somewhere in the Midwest. Here is the northern Indiana forecast for next Saturday. I never go out and start my tractor up in the winter when there is no snow. Wondering if I should. Do others start them once a week or so? I keep a float charger on it so it starts right up.

A winter storm could impact the local area Friday night through early
Sunday with heavy snow and blowing snow. Very cold arctic air could
follow by late in the weekend or early next week.

  • I'm in the same area your in Larry, we got a sorry 3" here Saturday. Looking for a bunch more than that this weekend. Got to try out the new chains.

I drive the N every couple weeks year round if I can. Don't like to see it sit.

  • The float charger will keep the battery ready to go, but you need to get some heat in the fluids to make it easier to start. For central VA one of those magnetic heaters can be slapped on and plugged in for an hour or so if I need to use a tractor after a night of single digits. I plug the heater in and go do something else for a while. We haven't had one of those nights yet. Further North permanently-installed heaters work better and are a lot more convenient. If we lived any further North I'd be looking at cab tractors with a heater for me.

  • I have lived in SE Michigan all my 76 years. My dad built a cab in the 50's for the 8N. We took it off before 1960 and I've never had one since. It DO get a bit cold but here I am. Of course, I'm not telling you about the hired snow plow for our private road and 5 driveways and we split the costs 5 ways. Usually he has everything cleared before I leave at 5:45 every morning that plowing is needed. I'm the first one out every day.

  • Weather in southern Michigan is snow and temps in the teens. I used to put a 70watt light bulb on the head to keep the engine warm when it was below 0. But thats on a gas engine. Probably didn't need it. Something to warm the oil would make your diesel easier to start.

  • Install engine block heaters. They help a lot.
    Saves the starter and battery.
Big Blue 5000 (Diesel) will not state in winter
    without heat.
