  • Hyd Oil for 8n
  • My 8n currently has 90 wt oil in it and it needs to be topped off. Can I add UTF to the 90 wt oil.

  • I was wondering about this and came on here and there is the question asked and answered. I look at the fluid in the tractor and it is clean and a nice colour so I was thinking, should I reuse it and top off. But I think it would be best to just drain and refill. I have no idea what fluid is in the tractor; it was changed out and my guess is it was 90 weight gear oil. The oil is sort of a light brown and clear on the finger.

As far as progress? The seat is off and the control for the winch is installed and tested. Just need to get a study table set up behind the tractor and sort the tools needed for the job.

  • While it is off take the opportunity to clean that sump. If it is like most it will have layers of crud in the bottom. Then refill with fresh oil.

  • I lost my cylinder. However, I made progress today, got the control installed for the winch and got the work table set up behind the tractor. Work was done on the hydraulics about 18 years ago but I am sure there is crud in the sump.

  • What are you talking about? Wet gravel? the rain stops tomorrow You got some 60 degree temps coming Sat/Sun/Mon. Tuesday next week might also be decent weather.
You have a few days to play.

  • After you get your's done, I have a Fergy that needs changing.
I might think about it Sunday at the earliest. Sunny and 52 at this elevation. The flat-landers will have the 60.

  • Yes but for the price of a 5 gallon pail of UTF I would simply drain and refill.

  • That is really what I figured I would do, I bought a 5 gallon pail this morning, but now I have convince this old body to lay down on the wet gravel and drain it out..

    Thanks!

  • I feel your pain - even on dry concrete I do my best to avoid laying down to work under anything. ;-)

  • The only reason that I was thinking about just adding the UTF is that the 90 wt is not all that old. I had a leaky line and lost a bit of the 90 wt., well maybe more than a bit!!
