  • Carb leaking gas
  • Hey guys
I went to get my 8n back in business today. It has been down for about a year. I had to put in a new battery. It cranked over fine. I chocked it for a while and unchocked it, when I realized that gas was pouring in a good stream from the bottom of the carb. It does normally leak some if I over choke, but this time it just continued pouring. I finally turned off the gas valve and it kept streaming out until the carb was empty. Any thought about what the cause might be would be appreciated. Cracked carb? Cracked gasket. Needs carb rebuild?

  • Don't over think this. Your float stuck. Rap the carb bowl with a hammer handle. If that doesn't work, pull the carb apart and fix the float or needle valve.

  • Yeah, I have often time found my carb had leaked out gas, + most likely from a stuck float...
So now I`m in the habit to turn off the gas EVERY time I dismount anymore...

Strange how it`ll do it and at times not, even with new parts, so my habit is a good one...

  • It is also a good idea because with a lot of fuel in the tank and a good seal at the air intake, it can overflow and go into the oil. If you don't catch it, it can ruin the oil and knock the bearings out.
