  • Hydraulic Oil
  • In my quest to give this tractor a much needed overhaul I am replacing the hydraulic oil. I purchased a 5 gallon tub of the Traveler Premium Hydraulic/Transmission oil at TSC. My head hurts from trying to make sure this will work. Does anyone have experience with this? Will it work okay? I don't want to hurt those inner workings.

  • It will work just fine. Take an aspirin for that head ache.

  • Hahaha okay, I go from website to website trying to decode peopleís advice. Use this, donít use that, make sure itís this weight and not that weight. I know some say to use 90w gear oil and The universal I purchased says itís 10w-30 so I just wanted to make sure.

  • Well just to add to your intellectual headache the universal you bought is also an SAE 80 gear oil. The numbers are actually grade labels not measures of viscosity and the viscosity of engine and gear oil grades overlap. The viscosity range of SAE 30 gear oil is actually on the high end of the viscosity range for SAE 80 gear oil and extends into the low end of the SAE 85 range:

    SAE 30 - 9.3 to <12.5 cSt
    SAE 80 - 7.0 to <11.0 cSt
    SAE 85 - 11.0 to <13.5 cSt
