  • Tractor Mechanic Recomendation
  • Hi All,

Per my previous post looking at a blown head gasket for starters. Also, hydraulics will lift a carry-all full of firewood, but not my mower. I don't have the tools, shop space, experience or time to take these on. Toying with moving on to something newer, bigger like a Ford 3000, but hate to give up on the 8N. Can anyone recommend a good shop/mechanic in the Clarke County area? Also would appreciate advice on repair vs. selling. I can handle the basic maintenance and repair, but seems like I always having to fix something and I don't have a lot of time.

    Thanks, Rick

  • I don't know anyone out thatta way so no help there.
I just wanted to mention that while a 3000 has options, advantages and features an N doesn't have, they were built between 1965-75 and getting long in tooth. Most have many thousands of hours on them and will likely need minor - or major - repairs just like any other old machine.
If for whatever reason you can't fix an N and want a more reliable tractor it might be time to consider a modern Yawnmar, Kaputa, S hitbura or Mahindrance.
